In the dusty mountain town of Real de Catorce Mexico, a group of about 150 cowboys form a cooperative which offers guided horseback tours to the nearby desert, mountains and ghost towns. Every participating member wears a standard outfit – cowboy boots, dark jeans, beige long-sleeve shirts, matching tan hat and an official badge bearing his name. Each morning a small group of these spirited cowboys congregated on the sidewalk below my hotel window to share tales of the previous day’s adventures and to wait for new or returning clientele.
